What should a pet dog eat?

Adopting a dog is probably one of the most important decisions you’ll have to make in this life. Keep in mind that you won’t just get a pet, but a new member of your family with full rights. Dogs are a great responsibility and, in order to ensure they live a long and happy life, you have to put in a lot of effort, spare time, and money in their wellbeing.

Nevertheless, having a dog is also extremely rewarding because they are beautiful and loving creatures that stay loyal. But, in order to enjoy a close and healthy relationship, you must ensure that you give the best food to your dog and provide a nutritious and balanced diet. So here is everything you should know about your dog’s diet.

Ingredients that are good for both men and dogs

When it comes to the foods your dog can eat, keep in mind that not all ingredients that are good for your health will provide the same benefits to your pet. Humans and dogs have different digestive systems so it is only natural that some ingredients won’t do good for your dog.

Also keep in mind that dogs are mainly carnivorous and, even though they accept fresh fruits and vegetables as a part of their diet, they cannot survive only with these. So it is important to provide your dog with a nutritious and healthy source of meat on a regular basis.

Bread, cashews, cheese, coconut, and corn are only some of the ingredients that can be fed to your dog without causing any harm. However, keep a close eye on cheese and other dairy products as dogs can too be lactose intolerant.

When it comes to corn, although a widespread ingredient in the preparation of dog meals, it isn’t as nutritious as some may think. Most of the organic dog foods have quit using corn, soy, wheat, and meat by-products because these ingredients offer “empty calories” and not the necessary amount of nutrients and vitamins your dogs require.

Eggs, fish, honey, milk, organic peanut butter, peanuts, pork, turkey, yogurt or quinoa are some other foods your dog can safely eat in small quantities. As we previously stated, it is important to provide a constant source of healthy proteins to your dog, so turkey, chicken, pork, beef, lamb, and game meat are welcomed.

Ingredients that you should avoid feeding your dog

There are some ingredients your dog should definitely not try while others can be consumed in moderation or occasionally.

Although almost all fresh fruits and veggies are welcomed into your dog’s diet, grapes contain high levels of toxins and can be life-threatening for dogs. Your dog shouldn’t be fed saturated fats, salty products, sweets or alcohol either.

Chocolate, ice cream, candies, cakes, beer or fries are no good as they are packed with empty calories, fats, and carbs that will harm your dog.
